Curse of the Crimson Throne
After the riots had quietted down a little, we got a new task to perform for the marshal. One of the dignitaries from Cheliax has been known to buy a lot of property in Korvosa, and she wanted it stopped, without us killing the dignitary (and starting a war) or it leading back to the guard. Quite a difficult task. So we set out to investigate the matter a bit before deciding on a plan of action, and for this we gained the help of two newer members of the guard, a dwarf and a halfling. We had two courses of action, one being the man’s home, the other being a brothel near the docks. We decided to break into his home first, which turned out to be the embassy of Cheliax. Like I said, not going to be an easy task. I caused a diversion at the back of the garden, while our cleric talked to the guards out front to keep them busy. In the meanwhile, the wizard and our two new helpers tried to get inside, which worked, but they didn’t get far. Mere minutes after they had entered, they came running out again, guards in pursuit. So we had to fight them off and managed to escape. The wizard, who hadn’t been seen by the guards decided to sneak out again instead of using the confusion to look around a bit. A missed opportunity in my eyes.
So we went for option number two which was the brothel. Here i sent the rest in to investigate while i waited outside. But as this was leading no-where I came up with plan to get rid of the man and get some information in the process. I got the cleric to buy me some knock-out poison and went to the room the chelaxian was staying together with a rather expensive prostitute. I made up a ruse about him being poisoned and having to drink the antidote i offered, which was in fact the poison, and he did drink it, but it had no effect. So I had to improvise. Telling him that the people who wanted him dead were still around i convinced him to go back to the embassy, under protection of the cleric. He finally agreed to this and went on his way. I told the wizard to ambush them and inflict some damage, enough to get the man even more paranoid, but obviously not enough to kill him. A few attempts on his life should convince him to leave Korvosa.
Meanwhile i hired the expensive prostitute for the night and talked to her to get some information from her, and some fun. 200 gold is much for information, and well I might aswel spend the night since it’s paid for. This did get us some more interesting information though. Apparently the owner of the brother, the spider king, has some dirt on the embassador, which he’s selling back piece by piece. It would be useful to get our hands on this. Corbi went to investigate and he managed to get into the spider king’s room, but only managed to get away with a pseudodragon. Can’t blame her here, she did what she could and freeing the creature is a noble thing to do. We talked to the marshal about all of this and apparently we did what we had to do. The embassador left town shortly after, fearing for his life.
